Teacup English

Learner Licence (version 1.3)

19 October 2026 · Between Teacup English and the learner who accepts it. A parent or guardian accepts it with learners aged 16 or 17.

1. Ownership

  1. We, or our licensors, own the Teacup English web apps and the course materials in them: the software, design, term banks, definitions, example sentences, communication patterns, lessons, quizzes, games, interview and exam-practice content, marking reports, illustrations and audio (the “Materials”).
  2. The Materials are licensed to you, not sold.

2. What you may do

  1. Use the apps and the Materials for your own personal study or assessment while your tutor's or organisation's space is active and you are a member of it.
  2. Make notes for your own study.
  3. Use what you learn in your own work, exams and job interviews.

3. What you may not do

  1. Copy, share, publish, sell or distribute the Materials, or let anyone else use your account.
  2. Take screenshots, recordings or copies of the Materials to share with other people or online.
  3. Scrape, crawl or use any automated tool to extract content from the apps.
  4. Use the Materials to train or prompt artificial intelligence systems, or for text and data mining. We expressly reserve these rights.
  5. Remove or hide any copyright notice, watermark or licence ID.
  6. Try to break, bypass or reverse engineer the apps' security.

4. Watermarking

  1. Your display name and licence ID (LL- code) appear on the apps' screens, and text you copy from the apps includes an attribution line. This helps us find unauthorised copies. It is shown only to you and your tutor or organisation.

5. Your work

  1. Your answers, writing, recordings you choose to make, and other work you create belong to you.
  2. You give us and your tutor or organisation permission to store and use your work only to deliver and assess your course.
  3. We will not use your work to train or improve AI systems unless you are 18 or over and separately choose to join the AI Training Data Agreement. It is optional. Saying no, or changing your mind later, does not affect your course, your access or what anyone pays.
  4. How your personal data is used is explained in your tutor's or organisation's privacy notice, which is separate from these terms.

6. If you are 16 or 17

  1. You can use the apps only in an under-18 workspace that your tutor or school has set up, and only after a parent or guardian has agreed to these terms with you.
  2. In an under-18 workspace, a person marks all your work, no AI is used to mark it or give feedback, and nothing you do is used to train AI.
  3. If anything in the course makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, tell a parent or guardian, your school, or us using the contact details below. You don't have to deal with it alone.
  4. You must be 16 or over to use the apps. When you turn 18, you can update your age on your account page.

7. Scores and reports

  1. Estimated IELTS bands, CEFR levels and other results are indicative only. They are not official IELTS, TOEIC, OET or Cambridge results.

8. Ending

  1. You can stop using the apps at any time.
  2. Your access ends when your tutor or organisation removes you, their space closes, or you seriously break section 3.
  3. When your access ends, you must not keep or use copies of the Materials, apart from your own notes and your own work.

9. Third-party materials

  1. Some recorded audio was generated with Piper using the “Southern English Female” voice trained on the OpenSLR SLR83 dataset, and is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. Those terms apply to those recordings instead of section 3.

10. Your legal rights

  1. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your legal rights, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
  2. Nothing limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

11. General

  1. We may update these terms. The apps will ask you to accept the new version before you continue.
  2. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring claims in your local courts.
